5 Outdoor Activities in the Lake District
Keep fit with outdoor activities in the Lake District .
Boating on Lake Windermere
As well as the Windermere Lake Cruises, boating on Lake Windermere is one of several popular outdoor activities in the Lake District. With a choice of local companies, you can enjoy a relaxing private boat ride or something more physical.
Hiring a rowing a boat can be a perfect way of bonding with a loved one. Take a picnic basket filled with your favourite food and a bottle of wine. Then, while out on the water, find a secluded bay along the lake and make the occasion a romantic one.
Alternatively, have fun canoeing and kayaking up and down the great Lake, either on your own or as part of a wider group. Other outdoor activities in the Lake District also include swimming, paddle boarding or even learning new skills with a sailing lesson.
Cycling in the Lake District
While walking in the National Park comes with a vast choice of routes to choose from, so does cycling in the Lake District. You can still follow many of the paths and walkways of famous fell walker Arthur Wainwright, but via the cycle lane.
It could involve a quick bike ride to the local attractions, or stopping off for a pub lunch, so you don’t need to take the car. However, when it comes to outdoor activities in the Lake District that help keep you fit, mountain biking can be a little more challenging.
One such track would be this particularly gruelling 91-mile ride (see here), along which you will ascend over 8000 feet. It’s famous for the Hardknott Pass and taking in some of the most spectacular views across Ambleside. Such as Kirkstone Pass, Honister Pass, Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass.
Treetop Climbing
Brockhole on Windermere is a fun and adventurous way to spend your package break in the Lake District. Brockhole has activities available for all ages, so you don’t have to just be a youngster to enjoy the treetop trek.
There are 35 separate courses to complete, with rope climbs and zip wires covering all levels and abilities. At Brockhole you can enjoy almost all our outdoor suggestions. As well as many more, such as trying your hand at archery or clay pigeon shooting.
Rock Climbing
If you like the idea of pushing yourself even higher than the treetops, how about rock climbing? The indoor Ambleside climbing wall is a great starting point. However, other outdoor activities in the Lake District provide experienced rock climbers with a vast playground.
